SAINIK SCHOOL NAGROTA CROWNED NORTH ZONE SPORTS CHAMPIONS 2022

The North Zone Inter Sainik Schools Sports and Cultural Meet-2022 hosted by Sainik School Nagrota from 10th July 2022 concluded at School Auditorium amidst fanfare and jubilation as Nagrotians were crowned Overall Champions of the Meet. Lt Gen Manjinder Singh, YSM, VSM, GOC, Head Quarters 16 Corps graced the Closing Ceremony as the Chief Guest and gave away the Championship Trophies to the winners of various games.

In his address, the Chief Guest congratulated the Overall Champions Sainik School Nagrota for their stupendous performance in sports as well as literary events and lauded the Principal and the team of staff for organising the Sports Meet successfully. Earlier, Capt (IN) AK Desai, Principal of the school presented welcome address and briefed the Chief Guest about the conduct of Zonal Competitions amongst Sainik Schools. The participating contingents presented a colourful cultural program to mark the occasion. The Closing Ceremony was graced by many distinguished guests and dignitaries including Senior Officers, Mr Randheer Singh Billoria, Chairman NEXAS and illustrious alumni of the School.

On its way to clinching the Overall Championship trophy, Sainik School Nagrota won the Volleyball and Football Sub-Junior titles and stood Runners-up in Hockey and Basketball. Further, the hosts also bagged the English Debate and Quiz Championship trophy in this edition of the tournament. Sainik School Kunjpura won the Basketball title with ease while Sainik School Kapurthala took away the Hockey Championship in a nail-biting final against Sainik School Nagrota.

MEET WITH MANY FIRSTS
  • • All matches of Football Sub Jr were played on Artificial Turf.
  • • Sainik School Nagrota reached in finals of 4 out 5 games for the first time in the History of the School.
  • • Sainik Schools of Uttar Pradesh namely Amethi and Mainpuri participated in the meet for the first time since their raising.

Amongst outstanding individual performers, Cadet Arush Verma of the host school bagged the Best Smasher award in Volleyball and Cadet Anshu Yadav of SS Kunjpura won the Highest Scorer award in Basketball. The other awards included Cadet Kunal (SS Kapurthala) –Highest Scorer and Cadet Ankit Verma (SS Nagrota) -Best Goal Keeper in Hockey, Cadet Bhanu Pratap Khajuria (SS Nagrota) –Highest Scorer and Cadet Akshansh Kr Parihar (SS SS Nagrota)-Best Goal Keeper in Sub-Junior Football and Cadet Arun Kumar (SS Kapurthala)-Highest Scorer and Cadet Alok (SS Kunjpura) –Best Goal Keeper in Junior Football.

Following prize distribution, the Principal presented the School Memento to the Chief Guest. Lt Gen Manjinder Singh, YSM, VSM during his address to the Cadets and the Contingents of all schools congratulated the Champion teams and complimented them for participation in Inter Zonal Sports Competitions being held shortly. He also remembered his school days in Sainik School Kapurthala and observed that the present generation is better prepared and has better access to resources. After complimenting the untiring efforts of Capt (IN) AK Desai, Principal and his team of Sainik School Nagrota, in organising this mega event in an excellent manner, he declared the North Zone Inter Sainik Schools Sports & Cultural Meet-2022 ‘Closed’. Curtains came down on this high spirited event with national anthem played by the J&K Police Band.


SAINIK SCHOOLS NAGROTA CREATE HISTORY IN NORTH ZONE SPORTS MEET-2022

On the final day of the week-long North Zone Inter Sainik Schools Sports Meet & Cultural Meet -2022 being hosted by Sainik School Nagrota, the hosts registered a scintillating win in Sub-junior U-14 Football and Volleyball finals held this morning.

Sainik School Kunjpura entered the Volleyball court for their final encounter but soon Nagrotians gave them a feel of the heat as they went on to win two quick sets in the best-of-five match. In the third set, last ditch efforts put in Kunjeyans to redeem their pride as defending Champions went astray as a volley of smashes by spikers of the host school led them to victory. the opponents in a dizzy. Nagrotians emerged undisputed winners in this exciting match defeating Kunjeyans in three straight sets 25/19, 25/16 and 25/13. Sub-junior U-14 Football team of Sainik School Nagrota continued their dream run and finished their North Zone Campaign in style by winning the finals against Sainik School Ghorakhal by 1-0. Being Champions in this zonal tournament, Nagrotians will represent North Zone in the upcoming All India Sainik Schools Inter Zonal U-14 Football Championship scheduled to be held at Sainik School Satara (Maharashtra) next week.

In the finals of Basketball, Sainik School Nagrota tried hard but failed to withstand the onslaught of Sainik School Kunjpura who dominated the entire match and emerged winners. Football Jr finals against Sainik School Rewari also went in favour of Kunjeyans as they trounced their opponents by 2-0.

Hockey finals between favourites Sainik School Kapurthala and underdogs Sainik School Nagrota provided the real adrenaline rush as they faught tooth and nail on the field till the final siren went up. As the match entered into penalty shoot-out sending the spectators into a frenzy, both goalkeepers gave their best to firewall against tricky shots. Sainik School Kapurthala held their nerves till the end to take home the last laugh with a 5-4 win. Principal Capt (IN) AK Desai showered accolades for all the winners of the closely contested final matches and wished the teams well for the upcoming Inter Zonal Competitions at different locations across the country.


SAINIK SCHOOL NAGROTA STORMS INTO FINALS IN NORTH ZONE FOOTBALL U-14 & BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Sainik School Nagrota took a firm grip of contention for the North Zone Inter Sainik Schools Sports & Cultural Championship as Football U-14 and Basketball teams of the school stormed into finals of the ongoing tournament. In the semi-final matches held today, Sainik School Nagrota Sub-Junior (U-14) Football team defeated Sainik School Kapurthala by 4-1 to enter the finals. In Basketball, the nail biting contest between the hosts and Sainik School Kapurthala went down the wire as the former pulled off a thrilling win by a whisker with the scoreboard freezing on 56-55.

The rain-marred Football Jr Semis ended with Sainik School Rewari trouncing the hosts on their way to finals. However, the Hockey team of Sainik School Nagrota kept their trophy hopes alive by defeating Sainik School Sujanpur Tira. On the literary front, all eight contingents from different Sainik Schools put up an enthralling cultural show at the School Auditorium. Sainik School Mainpuri was declared winners of the Cultural trophy as the hosts were not in contention for the trophy despite occupying the numero uno spot with their scintillating performance on the stage. Sainik School Kunjpura missed the trophy by a very close margin and stood on second position.

With almost all the final line-ups being drawn, the most awaited grand finale of the tournament is scheduled to be held on 15 July 22. The Closing ceremony of the Meet will be held in Maj Somnath Sharma PVC Stadium of the school on 16 July 22.


SAINIK SCHOOL NAGROTA ON A WINNING SPREE

In the ongoing North Zone Inter Sainik Schools Sports & Cultural Meet 2022 at Sainik School Nagrota, In Football, the hosts won a nail-biting match against Sainik School Kapurthala by 3-0. The match was greeted by a sudden downpour but wet grass and slippery outfield could not dither the spirited players from both the teams and Cadet Jimmy. A Nagrotian drew first blood by scoring a thriller. Much to their woe, Saikapians soon conceded a penalty which was quickly converted by the Nagrotians, and put them in a commanding position well before the halftime. As rain eased, Saikapians accelerated their attack in the second half and continued to push hard for scoring goals. Thanks to some fantastic saves by the Cadet Arjun, goalkeeper of Sainik School Nagota, the hosts continued to defend themselves even as red card went up twice forcing one player from each side out of the match for a grave foul. Another goal by Sainik School Nagrota sent Saikapians shattered as the match ended with an emphatic win by the hosts. In Volleyball Sainik School Nagrota continued their winning streak by defeating Sainik School Amethi in a one-sided match by 25/12, 25/07. The rain-marred Basketball match between Sainik School Nagrota and Sainik School Ghorakhal resumed after a brief spell as the hosts went on to win by a score of 40/29. Due to unfavourable weather conditions, hockey match of the morning session between Sainik School, Sujanpur Tira and Rewari was rescheduled.

On the literary front, Sainik School Nagrota put up a daunting performance and emerged winners in the North Zone Inter Sainik Schools Quiz Competition 2022 which was organised at the School Auditorium on 13 July 2022. Cadets Akash and Aman of the host school kept their cool despite early setback until taking comfortable lead in the rapid fire round. Sainik School Amethi, one of the new entrants in this North Zone Competitions won accolades and stood Runners-up. Capt (IN) AK Desai Principal lauded the participants for putting up a tightly contested Quiz Competition. Col VK Sharma (Retd), Principal Shri Ram Universal School, Jamu who was the Chief Guest on this occasion gave away the medals and certificates to the winners and complimented the participants from all eight Sainik Schools. The Quiz Competition was conducted by Quiz Master Mr BBR Chibber TGT (Social Science) of the School and his team.


SAINIK SCHOOL NAGROTA RETAIN ITS NORTH ZONE ENGLISH DEBATE TROPHY

Hosts Sainik School Nagrota proved their mettle at the podium by retaining the coveted English Debate Trophy for the second year in a row. Cadet Abrar Ali stood at Individual Third Position and with a spirited support by his team mate Cadet Gurpreet Singh Mehta, the school clinched the Trophy convincingly. Cadet Sukrit Bansal of Sainik School Kapurthala stood First and Cadet Suyesh of Sainik School Rewari bagged the Second Prize in the debate.

On the field, Sainik School Nagrota began their soccer campaign scored an emphatic win over Sainik school Mainpuri in Football U-17 Juniors by defeating the latter by 7-0 in the evening session of the first day of the North Zone Inter Sainik School Sports Meet-2022. Cadet Deepak Kumar netted five goals while Cadet Jigmet and Cadet Akhil left the new entrants SS Mainpuri dazzled with two more goals. The thunderclap for the reigning Champions SS Kunjpura came when Sainik School Nagrota trounced them 4-2 in the first hockey league match played in the evening. It was also an equally productive day for Sainik School Kapurthala (Punjab) who besides winning Hindi Debate in the morning, managed to defeat defending champions Sainik School Kunjpura by 22/25, 25/13, 25/16.

The morning session, on the second day, had mixed fortunes for Sainik School Kunjpura as they defeated arch-rivals Sainik School Ghorakhal in Hockey by 3-1 while hosts continued their winning streak in Volleyball by defeating Sainik School Sujanpur Tira in straight sets. League matches will conclude on 13 July as teams compete to enter into knock-outs with comfortable points tally.


NORTH ZONE INTER SAINIK SCHOOLS SPORTS & CULTURAL MEET 2022 INAUGURATED AT SSN

The North Zone Inter Sainik Schools Sports & Cultural Meet – 2022 got off to a flying start at Maj Somnath Sharma (PVC) Stadium in Sainik School Nagrota on 11 July 2022. Following a crisp and colourful March Past by the cadets belonging to eight contingents from Sainik Schools of Uttrakhand, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. Mr Bhupinder Kumar IAS, Transport Commissioner, J&K, an alumnus of the School, who was the Chief Guest on this occasion, formally declared the Meet open amidst euphoria and jubilation. Ms Ankita Kar, IRAS, Additional Commissioner, State Taxes Dept. graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour.

Capt (IN) AK Desai, Principal Sainik School Nagrota presented welcome address and expressed confidence that the participating contingents will uphold true sportsman spirit and exhibit highest standards of discipline on and off the field which is the hallmark of Sainik Schools. Cadet Arush Verma of Sainik School Nagrota commanded the March Past and Cadet Akhil Raj administered oath to the participating contingents. J&K Police Band played a rhythmic beat for the crisp March Past by the contingents.

Sainik School Kunjpura, Haryana contingent, being the reigning Champions led the March Past from the front, closely followed by Sainik School Kapurthala, Punjab who were Runners-up in the last edition of this Zonal competition. The hosts Sainik School Nagrota who finished runners-up in Volleyball last time began their campaign on a winning note by trouncing Sainik School Rewari. The hosts also registered a thumping win against Sainik School Kunjpura in Football Sub Junior U-14 league match while Kunjpura won their first match in Football Junior and Basketball on the opening session of the tournament. The respective winners of these games will qualify to participate in the All India Sainik Schools Inter Zonal Championships to be held at different venues later this year. On the literary front, Hindi Debate Competition was held at the School auditorium in which Sainik School Kapurthala emerged Winners while the hosts Sainik School Nagrota stood Runners-up. This week-long sporting extravaganza will culminate at the same venue on 16 July 2022.


GOC 16 CORPS INTERACTS WITH CONTINGENT OF SAINIK SCHOOL KAPURTHALA

NAGROTA : Sainik School Nagrota is hosting a weeklong North Zone Inter Sainik Schools Sports and Cultural Meet with effect from 11th to 16th July 2022. Eight Sainik Schools representing their respective states located in North Zone namely Sainik School Amethi, Sainik School Ghorakhal, Sainik School Kapurthala, Sainik School Kunjpura, Sainik School Mainpuri, Sainik School Nagrota, Sainik School Rewari and Sainik School Sujanpur Tira are participating in the event.

On 10 July 2022, a contingent comprising cadets, chief-de-mission and staff of Sainik School Kapurthala got the unique opportunity to visit Flag Staff House and interact with Lt Gen Manjinder Singh, YSM, VSM, GOC 16 Corps, who is an alumnus of Sainik School Kapurthala.

During the interaction the General Officer motivated the cadets to strive and do well in the zonal competitions and guided them to nurture the competitive spirit which will help them in their aspirations to join the Defence Forces as Officers.

On this momentous occasion the staff and cadets presented a School Memento to the General Officer and Mrs Barinderjit Kaur, Zonal President White Knight AWWA on behalf of Principal, Cadets and Staff of Sainik School Kapurthala.

The cadets were thrilled and highly motivated by the interaction. They expressed their gratitude for the hospitality, warmth and guidance extended to them. This life time opportunity will have a deep motivating impact on the young cadets.
